PROJECT 1:
DESIGNER'S JOURNEY:
ELEMENTS OF DESIGN
TASK
In this assignment, students were to produce an A5 accordion booklet. The content will consist of elaborations and explanations on the design elements observed from black and white photographs, photograph by ourselves. Other than that students were also required to produce one A3 sheet of analysis from the painting Guernica.
MY REFLECTION
weekly progress
WEEK 1
To further understand what my friend wants for her birthday, I start by chatting with her, asking about her likes and dislikes.
We talked about our desires, bucket list and the issues we are currently facing. It was nice catching up as we have not met each other in a while. After that, I gathered all the information I got and drew a mind map so that I can arrange all the information clearly.
I also went back and picked out some of our photos for inspiration.
After chatting with her, I try to define her problems. I asked her to take a picture of her room so that I know what to work with. Looking at the pictures she took, I then brainstormed some gift ideas for her.
I prioritized the pacticality and the meaning behind the gift, making sure that the gift solves the problems stated. I roughly think about the design of each gift, making sure that I include some of her favourites and interests.
I scrolled through her Instagram to further understand her style and what she values.
WEEK 2
WEEK 3
I picked three of my best ideas and elaborated on them. I focused more on the special features, the strengths and the limitations of each option.
After that, I showed my work to some of my friends and asked for feedback.
WEEK 4
I start making my gift. I documented the process by taking pictures. I also created my own poster for the presentation phase.
At last, I send her the e-gift and surprise her!
REFLECTION
1. LIFELONG LEARNING
By the end of the assignment, I realized that I got better at identifying problems and constructing problem statements, which helped me in the process of coming out gift ideas for my friend.
2. THINKING AND PROBLEM SOLVING SKILLS
To obtain the best outcome, I did not hesitate to redo my work. I discovered that by making more than one attempt, I actually learn about my mistakes on the way.
MY REFLECTION
3. DISCIPLINE SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE
I am now more aware of the importance of arranging my content in an infographic manner fir better understanding.
