PROJECT 1:
DESIGNER'S JOURNEY:
ELEMENTS OF DESIGN
TASK
In this assignment, students were to produce an A5 accordion booklet. The content will consist of elaborations and explanations on the design elements observed from black and white photographs, photograph by ourselves. Other than that students were also required to produce one A3 sheet of analysis from the painting Guernica.
MY REFLECTION
How do we use design principles to evoke emotions? In this assignment, we are to apply the design principles identified in the previous assignment, in order to craft meaningful architectural spaces that encourage introspection. Not only form and space, we are to also think about the appropriate materials and its tactile, as well as construction methods.

DESIGN INTENTION
Yugen is a folly exploring the theme of moving forward from the depression of the pandemic. It acts as a solution to break loose from a typical confined isolation space by bringing the outside inside, by luring, capturing and extracting the elements of nature.

REFLECTION
By the end of this project, I have gained experience and knowledge in expressing "ambiguity" which is a challenging topic. The three of us work well together towards the same goal and are always curious and willing to learn. We obtained a lot of guidance on this challenge from our tutor, which never stopped pushing us further. At the end, I'm happy that I made a breakthrough by exploring in areas that I was afraid to in semester 1. Besides that, I also had lots of opportunities to refine my ability to express sensorial qualities through drawings and diagrams.
1. LIFELONG LEARNING
"Ambiguity" was a challenging topic and I'm glad that we didn't give up exploring despite so many design hurdles. I hope to learn more on this topic in the next few semesters.
2. THINKING AND PROBLEM SOLVING SKILLS
Though met with design hurdles, my team and I never backed down and thought of better design solutions to further elevate our design proposal.
3. DIGITAL LITERACY
We read a lot of articles and interviews of architects that are masters in expressing the concept of ambiguity with space- Peter Zumthor and Sou Fujimoto especially.
