PROJECT 1:
DESIGNER'S JOURNEY:
ELEMENTS OF DESIGN
TASK
In this assignment, students were to produce an A5 accordion booklet. The content will consist of elaborations and explanations on the design elements observed from black and white photographs, photograph by ourselves. Other than that students were also required to produce one A3 sheet of analysis from the painting Guernica.
MY REFLECTION
How does user and site come into play in terms of space crafting? How do you use the site to design something that is meaningful? In this project, we are to design a solitary haven for ourselves and another family member. Considerations and limitations surface when user requirements and site conditions, which are both first introduced in this project. The challenge is to design around the specifications, while also serving a strong intention that is special to ourselves. The solitary haven should have strong connection and conversation with the site, the user, and the programs designed.
GALLERY OF EUDAIMONIA
DESIGN INTENTION
To create spatial experiences that encourage family bonding and active living.
To satisfy the fulfillment and happiness (eudaimonia) gained in cultivation and exhibition
To introduce the rural character of nearby trees into the structure, in order to spark inspiration for hobbies.
PRESENTATION BOARDS
REFLECTION
In this final assignment, I geared my intention from my own will to satisfying what both my father and I wanted, not just me. I learned to respect and appreciate the conditions of the built environment and specifications requested by the "client". Through site analysis, I was able to understand what the site can provide and contribute towards the intended programs, to achieve a human-nature-activity connection.
1. THINKING AND PROBLEM SOLVING SKILLS
Though sometimes the requirements do not go well with what I wanted to do, I learned to prioritize the "client" rather than myself.
2. COMMUNICATION SKILLS
Through this project I grew closer with my father, and got a lot of guidance in the structural integrity and buildability of the design proposal as he is a contractor.
3. INTRAPERSONAL SKILLS
I was able to manage my time wisely in completing the project, prioritising on drawings and diagrams, and was able to achieve my pre-semester goal, which is to produce beautifully rendered orthographics and key drawings that can convey the feeling of the haven.
