PROJECT 1:
DESIGNER'S JOURNEY:
ELEMENTS OF DESIGN
TASK
In this assignment, students were to produce an A5 accordion booklet. The content will consist of elaborations and explanations on the design elements observed from black and white photographs, photograph by ourselves. Other than that students were also required to produce one A3 sheet of analysis from the painting Guernica.
MY REFLECTION
WEEK 8: RESEARCH
To start off, I did research on all the artists mentioned by Mr Choy. I realized that I gravitate towards art that is quirky and fun. Therefore I decided to choose Yoshitomo Nara and Derek Boshier as my main inspiration. I then picked out Vincent Van Gogh as the art medium and painting style that I want to explore on and Ivan Chermayeff to analyze his way of creating art with collage.
WEEK 9: IDENTIFYING THE PRINCIPLES AND ELEMENTS + DOCUMENTATION OF STAGE 1
I then did 4 pages summarizing the elements and principles each artist likes to use, together with my takeaways.
WEEK 10: FINISHING UP STAGE 1 + PLANNING OF STAGE 2
After I am done with stage 1, I started to plan my further explorations for stage 2 by combining aspects from two artists.
WEEK 10: DOCUMENTATION OF STAGE 2 + PLANNING OF STAGE 3
With time left, I then wrote down notes describing the story behind each piece and the elements and principles used.
Progressing into stage 3, I first sketched out a few of my ideas to test my options and possibilities.
WEEK 11: PAINTING STAGE 3
Week 11 was mainly spent on painting my last piece.
REFLECTION
1. DISCIPLINE SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE
This assignment gave me the chance to know more about different artists such as Yoshitomo Nara, Dere Boshier, Vincent Van Gogh, and Ivan Chermayeff. It deepened my understanding of design elements and principles.
2. CITIZENSHIP AND GLOBAL PERSPECTIVES
I am given a platform to share my work and receive comments and criticism from my tutor and peers.
MY REFLECTION
3. DIGITAL LITERACY
With the help of the internet, researching the artists became a lot easier and I got to learn more about their history through articles and videos.
