INTRODUCTION

This module is a kick start to technical drawings and drawing conventions. It exposes the students to the basic techniques of technical drawing through multiple assignments that tie close to the real world. Students were required to understand and translate measurements and data with drawing conventions with the correct drawing tools that are understandable in the construction industry in order to demonstrate the ability to convert three-dimensional space and objects into two- dimensional orthographic drawings.

ASSIGNMENT 1:

INTRODUCTION TO TECHNICAL DRAWINGS

For this assignment, students are to observe their chosen object and record the size and shape of the object into 5  1:1scale two- dimensional orthographic drawings. This assignment is a starting point for students to familiarise drawing with preciseness and accuracy with the correct line weight. By the end of the assignment, students were expected to have a clear understanding of basic technical drawing terminologies such as plan view, elevation view, and section. Other than that, students are in hopes of grasping the means of communication in the construction industry.

MY REFLECTION

As for the second assignment, the complexity of the drawing increase. Students were to work in groups to record the measurements of a given space in Taylor's Lakeside Campus. Later then, the data were to be translated into a minimum of 5 drawings (plan, elevations, sections, and detail drawings) on a suitable scale. A more detailed title block is constructed in means to provide information on the drawing. Students are required to use the correct line weight, line types, symbols, graphics, and handwriting. By the end of the assignment, students were expected to know how to describe a space effectively and correctly from all the drawings produced.

ASSIGNMENT 3:

ORTHOGRAPHIC DRAWINGS OF MINI CHALET

The last assignment of this module requires the students to design a mini chalet on Taylor's Lakeside Campus, taking the site information and building function into consideration. The chalet proposed should be designed to accommodate two persons, with the internal space equipped with one bedroom, one lounging area/ living area, one kitchen, one dining area, and one bathroom, all fully furnished with furniture taken from Ikea. Students are to follow the requirements stated in the brief to produce a minimum of 6 different drawings (site plan, floor plan, elevations, and sections). At the end of the assignment, students are expected to fully integrate site information into their proposed chalet.

MODULE REFLECTION

In conclusion, This module made me learn a lot about the construction industry as well as myself. I can clearly see that my skills are slowly improving from the first assignment to the final assignment. The basic drawing conventions learned are to be applied to all my future technical drawings.

As for self-improvement, I am more disciplined than before. Like how I mentioned in assignment 2 and final assignment, time management is crucial. There are times when I feel lazy and stressed out from working for too long, so it is also important to take breaks.

Finally, I realized that being an architect is a very respected profession. Architects are not only restricted to designing, they too need to understand the technicality of a building.
