The importance of abiding building law to ensure healthy, safe and positive life quality.

The Kowloon walled city is built without architects and engineers, hence not much consideration is put into it. The buildings and living quarters do not get enough sunlight on a daily basis, making the environment dark and moist. There was also no rubbish collection. Proper sewage and lighting facilities were ignored.

Building law is important for the effective functioning of any building. Building by laws are made to ensure orderly development of localities in urban areas so that every houses is assured of good ventilation and no building affects the lighting and ventilation of neighbours. The buildings should be located in healthy surroundings and should have an aesthetic appearance.

The Kowloon city is an example of not applying building laws when constructing a living space. Cramped, dirty with no zoning of the type of space.

memorable scenes

kowloon2.png

In this scene, you can see that there is little light penetration on the streets, without sunlight, a place is often perceived as mysterious, suffocating, dark and dirty.

In this scene, the woman is scared of being filmed, but the man explained that the video wont be shown in Hong Kong. This means that they are living in constant fear of the Hong Kong government. We can see that their living quarters are unbelievably small, with pans and pots hanging on the wall to a string as there is no storage room. The ceiling is also very low, tall people have to always bend over to move around.
