I think space, architectural space, is my thing. It's not about facade, elevation, making images, making money. My passion is creating space. - Peter Zumthor

PROJECT 1:

"POINT AND LINE" + "PLANE AND VOID"

The first assignment was a kick-start for me into space studies and architecture modeling. We were required to build models with needles, strings and other materials to express our way to exploring with points, lines, and planes. It was also a kick-off for me to learn ways to communicate with visuals- sketches, diagrams, drawings.

MY REFLECTION

The second project then exposes us to design principles, mainly unity and variety, and rhythm in space. We were to understand the terminology and design 8 models, each relating to a type of rhythm. Later then, multiple rhythms are combined into forming a larger structure.

PROJECT 2:

"UNITY AND VARIETY" + "RHYTHM AND REPETITION"

PROJECT 3:

"HUMAN AND SPACE" + "COLOUR, TEXTURE AND SHADE, SHADOW"

As for the last project, we were to analyze the key features of parasitic architecture from modern examples and design a space that fits the theme.

The design for this assignment unlike the previous assignment requires us to consider the site information. Therefore before the design process, site analysis was conducted to understand our limitations and opportunities.

The design phase requires us to take inspiration from everyday objects and turn them into our own unique shape and form. We were to document the process in sketches and diagrams.

IN-CLASS EXERCISE

The in-class exercises mark a starting point in spatial design. Given exercises ranging from sketches, analysis, and models, we were trying to familiarise ourselves with the spatial design world- the exploration of point, line, and plane.
