ARCHITECTURE HISTORY AND THEORY

This module explores the theories of architecture applied in Asian architecture, particularly South and Southeast Asian architecture. Through three key themes: sustainability, tradition and modernity & globalization, concepts on architectural design and structural treatment will be taught using case studies and writings that is preserved and passed down dating back 50 years or more.

The module introduces fundamental skills for the appropriate communication of architectural design. It engages different means of visualization and expression of space and spatial ideas through architectural drawings to prepare us, students with the skills required in design projects. These skills are taught through a series of freehand and constructed drawings.

PROJECT 1:

BUILDING CONSTRUCTION AND MATERIALS

This module teaches the basic building construction and materials used in the construction of small to medium-scale buildings. It covers the principle of building elements, from material properties to structural components, to installations or doors and windows. Other than that, this module also informs the manufacturing process and different challenges that might arise when using the selected materials.

ARCHITECTURE & ENVIRONMENT

Architecture & Environment is a module that introduces environmental conditions and issues. It focuses on human intervention affecting the environment both positively and negatively, as well as the relationship of buildings with the natural system. The module introduces basic daylighting, artificial lighting, thermal comfort, and acoustical knowledge for students to create environmentally acceptable and comfortable building designs.
