PROJECT 1:
DESIGNER'S JOURNEY:
ELEMENTS OF DESIGN
TASK
In this assignment, students were to produce an A5 accordion booklet. The content will consist of elaborations and explanations on the design elements observed from black and white photographs, photograph by ourselves. Other than that students were also required to produce one A3 sheet of analysis from the painting Guernica.
MY REFLECTION
PROJECT 1:
ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN I
Architectural Design I (ARC60208) is structured as an introduction to architectural design. This preliminary design module aims to present and explain design through the expression of the perception of ‘self’ and the body, construction and materiality in terms of tectonics. Students will undertake a series of studio-based exercises and assignments that introduces the fundamental methods, principles and approaches in design thinking and basic spatial design. This will be enhanced with understanding of anthropometrics and designing intrapersonal space with creative exercise involving the body movements and experiences of the user.

PROJECT 1:
ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN II
Architectural Design II (ARC60308) is a continuation of the previous studio where the emphasis is put on “User and Context”, adding onto design elements, principles and tectonics. In this studio, we are to explore form and space while taking site and user into consideration. Understanding on structural integrity and construction assembly concepts is further enforced, to emphasize the need for appropriate architectonics and scale of space for a more relatable user experience. The final goal is to design a freestanding structure that meets user requirements while utilizing navigating through the advantages and disadvantages of the selected site.

PROJECT 1:
ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN III
The module emphasizes on ‘experiencing space and place’ in architecture events. The design work explores the plan-section integration to achieve an architectural form that is tectonically expressive, functional, and responsive to its site. The aim is to develop awareness of a broader place, a genius locus (town, countryside, coast), and the design response towards the place.

PROJECT 1:
ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN IV
In Semester 4, themed “engaging environment and community”, the studio explores design by harnessing environmental qualities and conditions for human and environment sustainability through a project with a specific community of users within a given context. The projects involve studies of precedents on design projects that are responsive to the environmental conditions and
sustainable issues.

PROJECT 1:
ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN V
The module is a design studio that emphasizes the idea of ‘place-making for the urban communities. Students will undertake a studio-based exercise that deals with urban blocks within a dense urban environment. The emphasis in this module will be on exploring the notion of ‘place-making’ and architecture that respond to this notion. Developing your design thinking as an architectural narrative, forming proposals that are poetic expressions of ideas. Projects will not promote complex programmatic and organizational problems but will rather allow in-depth exploration and interpretations.

PROJECT 1:
ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN PROJECT
This studio forms the culmination of the Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Architecture programme. This capstone project is based on the theme ‘architecture with an impact’. Progressing from the previous studio where it focused on urban streets, this semester, aims to empower the urban fabric by focusing on the needs and aspirations of the place and its people about the current times. Hence, students learn the impact of their work on social, cultural, and environmental aspects.
